The "Synth Bender" project aims to enable control of various parameters in a digital synthesizer using hand gestures. Five different parameters can be modified through these gestures and get tracked by a Leap Motion device. The goal of this project is to provide a playful and experimental approach for beginners in the music industry and general enthusiasts to gain an understanding of complex synthesizer parameters. To evaluate the effectiveness of this goal, a user study was conducted in which the "Synth Bender" was compared to traditional interaction with a synthesizer using a MIDI controller. The study evaluated the usability of both methods based on two hypotheses. Both hypotheses were supported by the findings, as the "Synth Bender" was deemed more engaging and provided advantages over traditional interaction with a MIDI controller.
