MultiTouch Card Game

Digital games are always limited in their playability because they require a special input device where actions the user can take are mapped onto. The user then has to learn and remember these actions although they may have nothing to do with the game itself. Touch devices however allow users to interact directly with what’s on the screen rather than using for example a gamepad as an input device. With the implementation of multitouch users are even able to make sophisticated gestures using more than one finger. With this technology I developed a card game prototype that tries to mirror real card game interactions to eliminate unintuitive mapping of actions as best as possible and to combine the advantages of real cards with the benefits of a digital game. The work shows that especially card games can benefit from the twodimensional input surface of a multitouch device although the hardware reaches its limits when it comes to recognizing palms.
