Google hat ein Konzeptvideo veröffentlich, wo eine Datenbrille in Aktion gezeigt wird, die das Internet ins tägliche Leben holt. Erinnerungen werden eingeblendet, man wird durch Straßen navigiert, Fotos werden über die Brille per Sprache geschossen und direkt auf Google+ hochgeladen. Und natürlich kann man Musik hören und skypen… schöne, neue Welt.

The German project “SimMed” built a prototype of a virtual child on a multitouch table to complement medical training. It is a cooperation between university clinic Charité and Archimedes. Here is a (German) video feature on “SPIEGEL Online”:

Except for phones and tablet, true multitouch displays, especially larger ones, are still hard to get. If one is looking for a simple monitor-style multitouch, the 3M™ Multi-touch Display M2256PW with 22″ at 1600-1700 EUR seems to be the only option. However, you do seem to get the real thing if one looks at this demo video:
It seems to be easier to buy a multitouch table, if you have 15000 EUR at your disposal. A promising model is the MT55:

For everyone interested in computer science education: I just stumbled across the SIGCSE organization (ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education) which organizes conferences around this topic.
The main (flagship) event is the annual SIGCSE Technical Symposium which is always located in the US (approx. 1500 visitors). Visit the sites of SIGCSE 2011 and SIGCSE 2012 to get a flavor of the programme.
For the rest of the world, the ITiCSE (Annual Conf. on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education) takes place at locations outside the US as well (e.g. ITiCSE 2011 in Darmstadt, Germany, in 2011). It attracts around 200 attendants.
Have a look at the SIGSCE 2012 blog to stay up-to-date on the next conference. By the way, Michael Kölling announced that there will be a Greenfoot event at SIGSCE next year.
Research results on sign language avatars will be presented on 25 Oct at this year’s ACM ASSETS conference in Dundee, Scotland (see programme). The title of our paper is “Assessing the Deaf User Perspective on Sign Language Avatars” and the talk will be given by Quan Nguyen (DFKI) and Silke Matthes (Univ. Hamburg).

Am 28. Oktober 2011 feiert der Lehrstuhl Human Centered Multimedia von Frau Prof. Elisabeth André sein 10-jähriges Bestehen.
Elisabeth André hat wie ich am DFKI Saarbrücken geforscht und ist sozusagen meine “Doktormutter”. Sie hat mich eingeladen, bei Ihrer Feier einen Vortrag zu halten. Titel: Medium Mensch: Gesten, Gebärden und gutes Schuhwerk.
Der Vortrag findet um 14:15 Uhr statt.
