Michael KippWelcome!

My name is Michael Kipp, I am professor for interactive media at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, department of computer science. In the past, I was head of a junior research group at the Cluster of Excellence "Multimodal Computing and Interaction", Saarland University, Germany, and senior researcher at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). I studied computer science, mathematics and psychology at Saarland University and the University of Edinburgh.

Professionally, I serve as a reviewer for the European Commission and other funding agencies, international conferences (CHI, LREC, SIGGRAPH ...) and journals (ACM TOG, ACM TIIS, ACM TACCESS ...). I am on the editorial board of the Journal for Multimodal User Interfaces (Springer) and Multimodal Technologies and Interaction (MDPI). If you are interested in my research, please visit my publications page.

My research interests are multimodal interaction, multitouch interaction and gesture-based interaction. 2007 and 2015 my co-authors and I received the Best Paper Awards from the IVA and INTERACT conference respectively. For my PhD research I developed the video annotation tool ANVIL.

You find more on my reseach at Google Scholar and ResearchGate. Also see my contact information.

My research topics lie in the general area of human-computer interaction (HCI), specifically multitouch and sensor-based interaction, intelligent avatars and multimodal corpora annotation (see ANVIL).

In the past, I initiated the first SLTAT workshop (Berlin) and co-chaired the 9th International Conference on Intelligent Virtual Agents. I continue to act as programme committee (PC) member at various conferences, e.g. AAMAS, CHI, ACHI and as a senior programme committee member at IVA. I have also acted as scientific advisor and reviewer for the European Commission, Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (KWO), Icelandic Research Fund, RWTH Aachen and KU Leuven.
