Flipping Words – Flipping Worlds

Learning vocabulary can be repetitive and uninspiring. This project introduces a Mixed Reality vocabulary game, enhancing engagement through spatial interactions. Users select a language, review vocabulary with pronunciation assistance, and enter the game via one of three transitions: (1) Turning 180°, (2) Stepping through the vocabulary list, or (3) Using the backside of the window. Players look at bubbles, tap their fingers, and pronounce words to earn points.
A small user study (n=5) showed that while the immersive transitions were engaging, users often preferred Version A (Turning 180°) for its intuitive mode-switching. Future work could refine spatial interactions, introduce adaptive difficulty, and explore collaborative learning for enhanced engagement.
